Troops from Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have successfully freed a local pastor, Ayuba Bitrus, and his wife, Nanman Bitrus, from a kidnapper’s hideout.
The rescue occurred in Faggem Village, located within the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, following a rapid response to a distress call by the military task force.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, June 7, 2026, by Media Information Officer Captain Polycarp Oteh, the group was rescued shortly after their abduction, though they are currently recovering from injuries sustained during their captivity.
Captain Oteh said, “Troops of Sector 5 operating in Bokkos, recorded another victory against criminality in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.”
”Responding to an urgent distress call from Faggem Village on June 5, 2026, troops swiftly mobilised and foiled an ongoing abduction attempt, as the operational pressure forced the criminals to abandon their targets and flee into a nearby forest.
“The chase led troops to successfully rescue a Pastor and his wife from the clutches of the kidnappers.
The OPEP spokesman said, “The couple, who sustained injuries during the initial assault by the criminals, were promptly evacuated by the troops to Bokkos medical clinic for treatment, while also initiating a manhunt to track down the fleeing suspects.”
He added that during a search of the hideout, troops recovered eight empty cases of 7.62mm special ammunition at the scene and immediately plunged into the adjoining forest on a rescue mission.
He assured the general public that the troops would not relent in their ongoing efforts and decisive operations to rid the highways and communities of criminal elements.
