Heavy traffic congestion paralysed movement around the Iwo Road axis of Ibadan on Monday as protesters blocked major sections of the busy roundabout while demanding the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo state.
The demonstration, led by members of the Take It Back Movement, began around 10 a.m., drawing scores of activists and concerned residents who accused authorities of failing to secure the freedom of victims still held by kidnappers.
Carrying placards and banners with messages against kidnapping and insecurity, the protesters called on both the federal and state governments to intensify efforts toward rescuing all abducted persons across the country.
Speaking during the protest, Juwon Sanyaolu, the national coordinator of the movement said the action was part of a sustained campaign launched after the abduction of pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo state in May.
According to him, the group would continue to mobilise public pressure until all those in captivity regain their freedom.
Sanyaolu criticised political leaders for focusing on preparations for the 2027 elections while insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across the country.
He argued that urgent action was needed to rescue abducted victims and address the worsening security situation affecting communities nationwide.
The protest caused significant disruption to traffic flow around the Iwo Road corridor, leaving commuters stranded for hours as motorists sought alternative routes.
Security personnel were observed monitoring the demonstration to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The protesters insisted that their campaign would continue until authorities take decisive steps to secure the release of the abducted pupils, teachers and other victims of kidnapping across Nigeria.
