The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), under the leadership of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has issued a strong response defending its General Overseer against what it described as misleading narratives circulating on social media in relation to Nigeria’s security challenges.
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 2, via the church’s official public relations platform, the RCCG condemned what it called false claims, deliberate distortions, and agenda-driven commentary targeting Pastor Adeboye.
The church dismissed allegations that the respected cleric endorsed the current administration or campaigned for President Bola Tinubu, insisting that his position on politics has always remained neutral. According to the statement, Pastor Adeboye has consistently encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and freely support any candidate or party of their choice, while maintaining political neutrality within the church.
The RCCG also addressed viral claims suggesting that the cleric cancelled a planned protest following reports of schoolchildren abductions in Oyo State. It clarified that the directive in question did not originate from him personally but was a communication aligned with instructions from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN). The church explained that the updated arrangement involved centralising the final day of a three-day prayer programme and organizing a rally within the designated venue, in line with PFN’s nationwide guidance to affiliated churches.
On accusations that Pastor Adeboye remains silent on national issues, the church rejected the claim, stating that he has repeatedly spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, governance, elections, and leadership ethics. However, it noted that his approach is typically rooted in spiritual counsel, prayer, and moral instruction rather than political confrontation.
The statement also dismissed suggestions that the cleric should direct military operations to rescue abducted victims, stressing that he holds no governmental or military authority as Commander-in-Chief.
Overall, the RCCG urged the public to disregard misinformation and avoid misrepresenting the statements and actions of its General Overseer.
