Russia has imposed restrictions on fuel sales in several regions after Ukrainian drone attacks disrupted refinery operations, while President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the country is facing “a certain shortage” of fuel.
Regional Governor Igor Kobzev said a state of high alert has been declared due to a shortage of motor fuel, and that the purchase limit at Rosneft gas stations is 50 litres per vehicle.
“The sale of fuel in any container other than a vehicle’s fuel tank is prohibited,” he wrote on the Russian social media Max.
Due to recent Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, several facilities suspended operations, prompting Moscow to periodically impose restrictions aimed at stabilising the domestic fuel market.
Ukraine’s General Staff claimed its forces had struck 16 major Russian oil refineries and fuel terminals, taking more than 30 per cent of refining capacity offline.
Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that the country was suffering from “a certain shortage” of fuel in an interview published by the Kremlin Sunday.
“Right now we’re observing a certain shortage, but it’s not critical,” said Putin.
The authorities in the Crimean Peninsula also declared an “emergency situation” over fuel shortages and power cuts triggered by Ukrainian attacks on its logistics chains and oil facilities.
