The political leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob, has cautioned against what he described as unwarranted attacks on Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Uyo during an interview with journalists, Bob urged political actors to embrace issue-based politics rather than personal attacks, stressing that democratic engagement should focus on policies and governance performance.He said criticism of government should be constructive and not targeted at the personality or integrity of elected officials.
According to him, Governor Eno, who hails from Uyo Senatorial District, deserves the same respect accorded past governors, adding that persistent personal attacks on his administration could be seen as an affront to the district.He warned that the people of Uyo Senatorial District would not support efforts aimed at undermining the governor’s administration. “If you want to play politics, play politics without bitterness and without personal attacks,” he said.
Bob further argued that political opponents should focus on presenting alternative programmes rather than engaging in personal criticism of the governor. Defending Governor Eno’s performance, the senator said the administration had remained committed to its ARISE Agenda and was working to deliver on its campaign promises.
He also called for continuity in governance, noting that the governor should be allowed to complete a full term in office, in line with democratic practice in the state. On the 2027 elections, Bob expressed confidence in the governor’s performance and said Uyo Senatorial District remained supportive of his administration.
He highlighted ongoing projects such as the International Conference Centre and Hilton Hotel, as well as the payment of pensions and gratuities, as key achievements of the government. Bob urged political stakeholders to avoid statements that could inflame tensions and instead allow voters to assess leaders based on their records.
