Seven Killed,Six Injured In Bauchi As Violence Erupts Between Farmers, Herders

Seven people were killed, six others injured, and dozens of homes destroyed in Lanzai and Dosho communities in Darazo LGA, Bauchi State. The violence was sparked by an attack on farmers using local fertilizer, which then triggered a retaliatory reprisal on a Fulani settlement.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed that a violent clash occurred on Thursday, June 4, 2026, between farmers and herders in the Lanzai and Dosho communities of Darazo Local Government Area. Following the incident, security operatives were deployed to restore normalcy and prevent further escalation.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib, a distress call was received at approximately 9:20 am detailing an assault by suspected Fulani herders against farmers applying local fertilizer on the outskirts of Lanzai.
The attack reportedly triggered a reprisal by youths from Lanzai, who mobilised and stormed Dosho, a Fulani settlement. During the retaliation, about 50 huts were set ablaze, and several household items destroyed.
Habib said, “The incident resulted in the death of seven persons, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical treatment.’
He added that extensive damage was recorded in the destruction of residential structures and personal property.
He said following the violence, tactical police operatives were deployed to the affected areas to restore law and order, prevent further escalation, and begin investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and underlying causes of the clash.
He assured residents that those responsible for both the initial attack and the reprisal violence would be identified and prosecuted.
