The children of late Nollywood comedian John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, have sparked reactions online after distancing themselves from his adopted daughter, Jasmine Okafor, during a livestream with skit maker Carter Efe.
Reports indicate that Mr Ibu’s son and daughter appeared on Carter Efe’s livestream over the weekend, where they were briefly seen dancing and interacting with the content creator. Their appearance followed renewed public attention on the family, coming shortly after their appeal for financial support circulated online.
During the livestream, Carter Efe asked the children if they were familiar with Jasmine Okafor. In response, both children stated that they did not know anyone by that name.
Their comments have generated debate online, especially because Jasmine was previously reported to have played a significant role in caring for Mr Ibu during his extended illness in 2023.
According to accounts shared by Mr Ibu himself and his second son, Daniel Okafor, Jasmine travelled from Cyprus to Abuja after learning about his health condition. She reportedly stayed with him in the hospital, assisted with some of his medical expenses, and helped manage his social media platforms during that period.
Daniel also previously acknowledged that she supported their father’s care whenever his wife was unavailable.
Jasmine had also shared videos at the time showing her attending to Mr Ibu in hospital, stating that her priority was his recovery despite ongoing family disputes.
Following the children’s remarks on the livestream, social media users have continued to express mixed reactions. While some have criticised their mother, Stella Maris Okafor, accusing her of influencing the children’s response, others questioned the decision to allow the minors participate in a public livestream session.
