Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has explained the reason behind his decision to hand invitation to several new players in recent outings at the Unity Cup and the friendly against Poland, DAILY POST reports.
Chelle included eight home-based players in his squad for the Unity Cup invitational tournament.
The likes of Femi Azeez, Owen Oseni, Arthur Okonkwo, and Rafiu Durosinmi all made their debut at the competition.
Banik Ostrava defender Abdullahi Bewene made his debut for the Super Eagles against Poland, while Genk defender Christian Akpan has been handed late invitation for the upcoming friendly Portugal.
Chelle said he is determined to improve the quality of the team.
“We have analysed our game over the past year and have tried to bring in players who can help the team grow,” Chelle told the Super Eagles media.
“We need to improve because, for me and for everyone, it is often the smallest details that make the difference between being the best team and winning a trophy.”
