Tinubu Must Act Courageously Against Insecurity Threatening Nigeria’s Existence — Youth Arise Movement

ABUJA – The Convener of Youth Arise Movement, Comrade Ademola Babatunde Abidemi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent and decisive action against the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, warning that the situation threatens the nation’s collective existence.

Abidemi, in a statement, made available to journalists in Abuja on Friday said Nigerians have endured over 15 years of attacks involving killings, kidnappings, sexual violence, displacement, and destruction of communities, businesses, places of worship, and livelihoods.

He stated that insecurity had affected Nigerians across all social classes, noting that both the rich, middle class, and vulnerable citizens were experiencing the consequences of attacks by terrorists, bandits, and criminal elements.

According to him, the President, members of the Federal Executive Council, and elected lawmakers must rise to the responsibility of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the lives of citizens.

He described recent attacks on schools, children, and teachers as “an attack on Nigeria’s future,” urging the government to treat the perpetrators as a common enemy threatening the country’s development.

“This is not the time for politics; it is the time for passion, courage, patriotism, and decisive leadership. The priority should be protecting the nation and the people entrusted to your care,” Abidemi said.

He warned that continued failure to address insecurity could undermine citizens’ confidence in government and affect future political processes, stressing that democracy can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

The youth leader also called on the President to convene a meeting with the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, and other security agencies to develop a comprehensive strategy to protect rural communities, schools, and vulnerable areas.

He recommended the creation of structured community security initiatives, including training platforms and orientation programmes, to support local protection efforts, especially in rural communities and border areas.

Abidemi further urged the government to ensure that development funds and security allocations provided to state governments are effectively deployed towards protecting communities and safeguarding citizens.

He maintained that Nigerians must unite against insecurity, saying the protection of lives, dignity, and the nation’s future should remain the government’s highest priority.

“It is our prayer that the ideals of protecting human lives and dignity will inspire this administration to stand with Nigerians and defend Nigeria in truth and honesty,” he said.
