Tompolo Urges Calm Over Warri Ward Delineation Dispute, Calls On INEC To Act Responsibly

The Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has appealed to protesters in the Warri Federal Constituency to embrace dialogue and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do the right thing regarding the ward delineation exercise in the constituency.

His appeal follows widespread protests that erupted across the oil-rich region on June 8, 2026, over the alleged non-implementation of a ward delineation order by INEC. The protests reportedly resulted in the shutdown of 13 oil flow stations operated by major energy companies, including the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), and NESTOIL/NECONDE.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary in Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Tompolo confirmed that peaceful women and youths from various communities within the Warri Federal Constituency had occupied oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri River areas as part of the ongoing mass action.

While acknowledging the concerns of the protesters, the Tantita chairman stressed the need for a peaceful resolution of the dispute. He noted that the Ijaw people have historically been known for their peaceful disposition and should not depart from that tradition.

According to him, the political tension arising from INEC’s failure to conclude the ward delineation process should not be allowed to degenerate into violence or be hijacked by elements seeking to cause unrest.

Tompolo therefore called for restraint and patience, revealing that community leaders and other stakeholders would soon meet to explore a peaceful way forward. He also urged INEC to act responsibly and complete the delineation process in a manner that would restore peace and stability in Warri and its surrounding communities.

He further appealed to all residents of the Warri Federal Constituency, including the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic groups, to remain calm and allow due process to prevail while awaiting INEC’s decision.
