‎By Chimezie Godfrey

‎Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded significant operational successes against terrorists and bandits in Zamfara State, neutralising two terrorists, rescuing three kidnapped victims and recovering a cache of arms, ammunition and logistics.

‎The operations, conducted across Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of the state, form part of ongoing efforts by the military to rid the North-West region of criminal elements and restore lasting peace.

‎According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, troops on June 12 embarked on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi Local Government Area.

‎During the patrol, the troops made contact with a group of terrorists in Yanbuki District, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

‎The statement said the troops neutralised one terrorist and recovered rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.

‎As the troops advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, the terrorists reportedly abandoned their camp and fled upon sensing the superior firepower of the advancing forces.

‎The troops subsequently cleared and destroyed the enclave.

‎In a separate operation along the Shinkafi-Moriki axis, troops on routine patrol successfully ambushed another group of terrorists.

‎One terrorist was neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles and assorted charms.

‎The military also disclosed that three kidnapped victims were rescued during the operations.

‎The rescued persons are currently receiving necessary care, while efforts are underway to reunite them with their families.

‎The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.

‎It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance ongoing counter-banditry operations.
