Nigerian Army troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded successes in ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the North-East, including the destruction of improvised explosive devices, IEDs, recovery of logistics supplies and the arrest of suspected terrorist collaborators.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI.
According to the statement, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, Team, working alongside the Quick Reaction Force, QRF, responded to intelligence from local residents on June 16 regarding IEDs planted along the Biu–Buratai Road.
The troops conducted a fighting patrol to the area and discovered five IED cylinders allegedly planted by terrorists. The devices were safely detonated without casualties before the troops returned to base.
In a separate operation on June 17, troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion engaged suspected terrorists along the Miyanti–Ngoshe axis while returning from a picketing duty in Kirawa.
The military said the troops encountered an unconfirmed number of insurgents riding about 60 motorcycles. Following an exchange of gunfire, the troops forced the terrorists to retreat towards Miyanti.
Items recovered from the scene included 817 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three motorcycles, two solar panels, 102 sachets of salt, a motorcycle tyre, two motorcycle tubes and other spare parts.
The statement further revealed that troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison arrested two suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) logistics suppliers during a stop-and-search operation on June 19.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Bukar, also known as “Dege,” and his apprentice, Iliyasu Abdullahi, were intercepted in a Volkswagen vehicle allegedly transporting petrol and relief materials intended for terrorist elements.
Operation HADIN KAI said the operations demonstrate the military’s resolve to disrupt terrorist activities and logistics networks in the North-East.
The military also urged members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
