Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational gains following coordinated offensives in Sokoto and Katsina states, where they repelled a terrorist attack, rescued abducted victims, neutralised armed suspects, and recovered weapons and stolen livestock.
Military authorities said the operations were conducted on June 21 and 22 as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West region.
In a statement on Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the media information officer of the operation said troops foiled an attempted infiltration of Tureta town in Sokoto State after receiving credible intelligence on the planned attack.
He explained that the soldiers engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into surrounding areas.
Danja added that aerial surveillance later tracked the fleeing suspects to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were seen moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock.
According to him, troops launched a swift pursuit operation despite an ambush attempt by the criminals, overpowering them with superior firepower and forcing them to disperse.
The operation led to the rescue of the abducted victims, recovery of stolen cattle, and seizure of motorcycles used by the attackers.
In a separate raid in Katsina State, troops carried out an intelligence-led operation on a suspected terrorist hideout in Matazu Local Government Area in the early hours of June 22.
The military said the surprise assault resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Weapons, including a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, motorcycles, communication devices, and rustled livestock, were recovered during the operation.
Lieutenant Colonel Danja said the successes reflect the continued pressure being mounted on criminal groups in the region and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustained operations aimed at restoring peace and security in the North-West.
