Turaki-led PDP Backs Nwifuru’s Criticism Of Wike, Rejects Alleged APC Alliance Claims

The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led by Tanimu Turaki has thrown its weight behind Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for openly criticizing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over what it described as interference in political affairs beyond his official jurisdiction.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party commended Governor Nwifuru for cautioning the FCT Minister against actions and comments capable of creating political tension in Ebonyi State.

The PDP said the governor’s remarks highlighted concerns over what it termed Wike’s involvement in political developments outside his area of responsibility, adding that such concerns have been expressed by other political actors in the past.

According to the party, Governor Nwifuru’s position echoes earlier criticisms by former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, regarding Wike’s role in political affairs.

The opposition party also used the opportunity to restate its position on its relationship with the ruling party, insisting that it remains an independent opposition platform committed to democratic principles and political competition.

The PDP maintained that it is not in alliance with the governing party and reaffirmed its support for its candidate, Eze Alexander, describing him as the party’s authentic representative in the political contest.

While urging Nigerians to support efforts aimed at promoting political stability, the party called on political leaders across the country to resist actions capable of generating unnecessary tension within their states.

The statement comes amid growing political exchanges involving key actors ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, with parties and stakeholders positioning themselves for future contests.
