In recognition of excellent performance and determined efforts to service, Elders, leaders of Ugono-Orogun community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State headed by Pa. Macaulay Aghanenu have honoured Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, Vice Chancellor, Southern Delta University (SDU)and others.
In his opening speech, Mr. Jonathan Owebor, Chairman, Organising Committee of the ceremony said that the award is in recognition of the recipients’ worthy contributions to the overall development of Ugono-Orogun community.
According to Mr. Owebor , “today gathering is a further appraisal of the carnival itself. The selection process was thorough and pains taken. Those honoured now deserved the honours and we urge them to see it as a call upon them to do more for the advancement of the community.
He also emphasized that, “Ugono Orogun have been so fortunate in the recent years in the areas of human Capital development. We need to improve on the network of Educational institutions, portable water, significant government presence. We already have the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun and Military Space School.”
Speaking further the planning committee chairman also hinted that much is still needed to be done to ensure proper development of Ugono-Orogun community.
He said that Ugono Primary School needs a face lift in terms of physical structures and presence of more teachers, adding , “we used this medium to appeal to the government and well meaning sons and daughters of Ugono-Orogun to come to our rescue in this regard for more on educational development”.
In a chat, Prof. Awhefeada expressed his appreciation to the community for being honoured, adding, , “I want use this opportunity to express my appreciation to the entire community for the honour, this has placed a burden upon us to do more for the overall development of our great community.”
Others who were honored included Ochoko Adehor Esq, President General, Ugono Orogun, Chief Amos Agboje, Chairman, Elders and Leaders Council of Ugono Orogun, Edwin Achugbue, Librarian, Federal Polytechnic Orogun, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, DIG Marvel Akpoyibo (Rtd) among others.
