The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has advised former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, to fight his political battles alone and stop dragging the Olubadan stool into partisan disputes.
Naijaonpoint reports that the group gave the warning in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Fayose had, during an interview on Channels Television, accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of dismantling his political structure in the South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He also claimed to enjoy the support of influential figures in Ibadan, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja.
Reacting, the CCII warned Fayose against making comments capable of bringing the Olubadan stool into disrepute.
“The Olubadan throne is sacred, highly revered and strictly non-partisan. No politician, no matter how highly placed, should use the throne to score political points or settle political scores,” the statement read.
The group said Ibadan was known for peace and unity, urging the former governor to desist from inflammatory statements.
“Ibadan is known for peace, wisdom and unity. No individual, regardless of political influence, can set Ibadan on fire through reckless political statements,” it added.
The CCII queried Fayose’s remarks, saying, “Is this how he intends to repay the hospitality of the people of Ibadan, by denigrating the Olubadan throne, setting Ibadan sons and daughters against one another, and attempting to set the state on fire?”
