Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the killing of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade, describing the act as “barbaric, cowardly, and a direct attack on democracy” in Osun State.
The governor made the remarks on Monday during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that Ezekiel was reportedly shot dead on Sunday by suspected political thugs linked to the opposition APC.
Accompanied by top government officials, party leaders, and security aides, Adeleke told the grieving family that “Osun people will not be cowed by bullets or bloodshed.”
Expressing anguish and sorrow over a life cut short for political reasons, the governor affirmed that the Osun people cannot be cowed by gunshots and declared that we are not afraid as we remain resolute in our re-election bid.
“Osun is not a graveyard. It is not a battlefield. You cannot kill your way to the Government House,” the governor declared.
“Those who think violence will win them elections are making a big mistake. The people of Osun have rejected blood politics, and we will not return to the dark days.”

He vowed that his administration would work with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
“I have directed the Commissioner of Police and DSS to fish out everyone involved, no matter how highly placed. Justice must be done for Ezekiel and for every Osun citizen.”
The governor, who was also at the Osun State Teaching Hospital, visited and condoled John Mathew, who survived gunshots during which the victim was killed, calling the attack “barbaric and a demonstration of man’s inhumanity to man.
“I have talked to the police authorities. They must arrest and prosecute the killers. This criminal conduct has to stop. That was how APC thugs attempted an attack on my son.
“We will not rest until justice prevails. Osun people will not bow to agents of violence. We will vote, and by God’s grace, I shall be re-elected,” the governor noted.
The deputy governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, who was also at the condolence visit, condemned the killing of innocent ones by political thugs, declared that “God will avenge the death of Ezekiel”
