Lecturers, staff and students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) can now heave a sigh of relief as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa approved N1.1 billion intervention fund for the University authority to offset unpaid salary arrears owed lecturers and other members of staff of the institution.
This as disclosed on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
According to the statement, the intervention fun as approved to bring to an end the ongoing strike by the staffers of the varsity as a result of unpaid salaries.
The statemeny reads in parts: “In furtherance of his administration’s commitment to education and workers’ welfare, Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the release of N1.1 billion as a Special Intervention Fund to the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
“The intervention is specifically to offset outstanding salary arrears owed to staff of the institution and to bring an end to the ongoing industrial dispute in the institution.
“The Governor has directed the Ministry of Finance and the University Management to ensure prompt release and disbursement of the funds, and has called on the Unions to suspend strike and return to work in the interest of our students and the development of the institution.
“This gesture reaffirms the Aiyedatiwa administration’s belief that a well-motivated workforce is critical to building a 21st century university that can compete globally.”
