APC names Uzodimma campaign council chair for Osun governorship election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted its National Campaign Council and several sub-committees ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, appointing Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as chairman of the campaign council.

The party said the move is aimed at coordinating its nationwide campaign structure and mobilising support for its candidate ahead of the crucial off-cycle election.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

According to the statement, the campaign council was constituted through a notice signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.

Osun State is one of the states scheduled to hold an off-cycle governorship election this year, with political parties intensifying campaigns and strategic preparations ahead of the August 15 poll.

The statement read in part, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) announces the composition of its National Campaign Council and its Sub-Committees for the Osun State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

“As contained in a Notice signed by the Party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, Ph.D., BL, the National Campaign Council is chaired by His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.”

The APC also named Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, as co-chairmen of the campaign council.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, will serve as deputy chairman, while Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, was appointed secretary of the council.

According to the party, the campaign council comprises governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, as well as other party stakeholders drawn from across the country.

“The Council comprises eminent Party leaders, governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state legislators, and other key stakeholders drawn from across the country to drive the Party’s campaign towards victory,” the statement added.

To strengthen its electioneering efforts, the APC also announced the establishment of specialised sub-committees to oversee critical aspects of the campaign.

The committees will be responsible for election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots engagement and mobilisation, logistics and campaign management, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, mobilisation of persons with disabilities, and secretariat functions.

The party disclosed that both the National Campaign Council and the various sub-committees will be inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre in Abuja as preparations intensify for the Osun governorship election.
