The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, has described the resignation of Dr Peter Ogundeji, popularly known as Apata, as “one of our answered prayers” ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that Ogundeji, a former aspirant for the Osun West Senatorial District, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 11, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 6, Ola, in Ejigbo Local Government Area.
In the letter, he said the decision followed deep personal reflection and extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters.
“Although leaving the party was difficult, I believe it is in the best interest of my political convictions and future aspirations,” Ogundeji wrote.
He said the move was driven by commitment to fairness, inclusiveness and mutual respect, while also acknowledging the opportunities the APC gave him.
“I appreciate party leaders and members for the relationships built and the experiences gained over the years,” he added.
Copies of the letter were also sent to the APC Chairman in Ejigbo LGA and the Osun State chapter of the party.
Reacting to the development on Monday, the APC spokesperson in Osun, Kola Olabisi, said membership of a political party is voluntary, and no one is coerced to stay.

“Membership of a political party is not by coercion. Anybody is free to join any party of their choice, and Apata’s exit is one of our answered prayers,” Olabisi said.
He added that the party has been praying for God to remove anyone who would be a clog to its victory at the poll.
“We have been praying that whoever will be a clog to the victory of our candidate at the poll, God should remove him, and that is what we are witnessing,” the spokesperson stated.
