KANO — Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has said the Federal Government is committed to improving the welfare of security personnel across the country, describing their well-being as critical to the success of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
Barau said the Tinubu administration is taking deliberate measures to enhance the working conditions and welfare packages of security personnel.
According to him, the steps include those who may serve under a proposed state police system, to boost morale and improve operational effectiveness.
Speaking during an interview on Hannu Da Yawa, a programme on Radio Nigeria Kaduna monitored in Kano, the Deputy Senate President said discussions on state police are being driven by the need to tackle emerging security challenges, while ensuring that the interests of both federal and state security personnel are adequately protected.
“We are committed to ensuring the welfare of our security personnel because a motivated workforce is indispensable to effective policing and national security,” Barau said.
He assured that any reform of the nation’s policing framework would be implemented within the ambit of the law, stressing that the proposed state police structure would be designed to complement existing security institutions, safeguard the national interest and promote effective coordination among security agencies.
Barau also urged Nigerians to deepen their cooperation with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, noting that public support remains indispensable to the fight against crime and the preservation of peace.
He added that achieving lasting security requires a collective commitment from both government and citizens, insisting that safeguarding lives and property is a shared national responsibility.
