Bloodbath In Agu-Ifite: Police Launch Massive Manhunt As Four Residents Killed, Settlement Razed

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome killing of four residents during a deadly attack on a remote settlement in Agu-Ifite, Awka, describing the incident as barbaric and unacceptable.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 21, has sent shockwaves across the state, with security agencies intensifying efforts to track down the heavily armed assailants responsible for the carnage.

According to the Police, operatives of the Police-led Joint Security Team responded swiftly to a distress call and discovered the bodies of four male victims with severe injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were bound before being brutally murdered with machetes and blunt objects. The attackers also set two residential huts ablaze, leaving the settlement devastated.

Beyond the loss of human lives, the attackers targeted livestock in what investigators believe may provide crucial leads. Four cows were found dead at the scene, while two others had been slaughtered. Security operatives recovered sacks containing abandoned chunks of meat believed to have been left behind by the fleeing suspects.

Police said initial findings indicate that the attackers were armed with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action shotguns, double-barrel guns and machetes, suggesting a coordinated and well-planned operation.

In a significant breakthrough, one survivor escaped the attack unhurt and is currently assisting investigators with critical information that could help identify and arrest those behind the assault.

The Command has assured residents that every available investigative and intelligence resource is being deployed to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.

It also extended condolences to the affected community through the Sarkin Fulani and urged residents to remain calm while supporting security agencies with credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the investigation remains active and promised that further updates would be made public as more facts emerge.
