Suspected Boko Haram t3rrorists have burnt down a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms in Logomani community, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.
It was gathered that the assailants struck the community late on Tuesday night, shortly after launching an att@ck on the Forward Operating Base in Logomani, during which one soldier was k!lled.
The t3rrorists reportedly scattered residents by firing sporadically before setting the facilities on fire.
The Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, disclosing that two gun trucks and some combat enablers were damaged in the course of the engagement.
He explained that the att@ck was successfully contained by troops of Operation Hadin Kai stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Logomani under Sector One.
Part of his statement read: “Troops of Operation HADIN KAI deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State under Sector One successfully contained a coordinated att@ck by ISWAP t3rrorists.
Although the ins£rgents briefly exploited a section of the base’s defensive perimeter during the intense firefight, the troops rapidly regrouped, mounted a determined counter-offensive and decisively expelled the attackers, inflicting significant casualties and forcing the surviving t3rrorists to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement.”
He added that the situation at the Forward Operating Base in Logomani remains firmly under the control of Operation Hadin Kai troops, noting that reinforcements had been deployed, exploitation operations were ongoing, and additional measures were being put in place to further strengthen the location’s defensive capacity.
Residents who spoke to an online news platform described the att@ck as coordinated, saying the t3rrorists faced little resistance as they carried out the assault.
“We all left the community during the att@ck. The t3rrorists were very sophisticated. After they overpowered the Army, they entered the school and burnt down two classrooms.
They also attacked a police outpost and a hospital, which they burnt down,” said one resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
A local security source disclosed that a combined security team made up of the police, the military and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force pursued the t3rrorists after the att@ck.
“They had fled a considerable distance,” the source said.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, for comment were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Mala Tijjani Ngala, carried out an on-the-spot assessment of Logomani on Wednesday following the att@ck.
During the visit, the chairman inspected the damaged police outpost, primary healthcare centre and primary school.
He said the findings from the assessment would be forwarded to the Borno State Government for immediate intervention, while also appealing for calm and urging residents to cooperate fully with security agencies.
