Borno Governor Babagana Zulum Launches Construction of 100-Bed Hospital in Kwaya Kusar to Boost Healthcare Services

Borno State, Nigeria – Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has flagged off the construction of a modern 100-bed hospital in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery and expand access to quality medical services across Borno State.

The new healthcare facility is expected to strengthen the state’s medical infrastructure by providing residents with improved access to essential health services, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances in search of specialized treatment.

Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in critical sectors, particularly healthcare, education, and infrastructure, describing them as key pillars for sustainable development and improved living standards.

According to the governor, the project is designed to address the growing healthcare needs of communities in Kwaya Kusar and surrounding areas by providing modern medical facilities equipped to deliver quality care.

When completed, the 100-bed hospital is expected to include inpatient wards, emergency services, consulting clinics, maternity and child healthcare units, diagnostic facilities, operating theatres, laboratories, and other essential medical departments. The project is also expected to create employment opportunities for healthcare professionals and support staff.

Governor Zulum noted that expanding access to healthcare remains a priority for his administration, especially in communities recovering from years of insecurity. He emphasized that improved medical facilities would contribute to better health outcomes, reduce preventable deaths, and enhance the well-being of residents.

The hospital project forms part of the Borno State Government’s broader strategy to rebuild public infrastructure and strengthen social services across the state. Over the years, the administration has undertaken several projects aimed at rehabilitating hospitals, constructing primary healthcare centres, and improving access to quality medical care in both urban and rural communities.

Residents of Kwaya Kusar welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the new hospital would significantly improve healthcare services in the area. Community leaders said the facility would reduce the burden of travelling to distant hospitals for treatment while providing faster access to emergency medical care.
