Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated two outstanding Nigerian women in the diaspora, Ugwechi Amadi and Prof. Oghenetega Ighedo, for achieving significant milestones in business leadership and academia.
Dabiri-Erewa described their accomplishments as a testament to the talent, resilience and intellectual excellence of Nigerians making remarkable contributions across the world.
According to a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols on Wednesday, Amadi was recently appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of McDonald’s, becoming one of the highest-ranking Nigerian executives in the global corporate sector.
A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Rhodes Scholar and holder of a PhD from the University of Oxford, Amadi has previously held senior leadership positions at LIV Golf, Nike and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
The statement also highlighted the achievement of Prof. Oghenetega Ighedo, who made history as the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Ighedo, an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at UNISA, was commended for her academic and research contributions as well as her efforts to inspire greater participation of women and girls in mathematics and other STEM disciplines.
Dabiri-Erewa said the achievements of both women underscore the importance of creating opportunities for young Nigerians, particularly women and girls, to excel in leadership, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
She praised Amadi and Ighedo for breaking barriers in their respective fields and serving as role models for younger generations.
The NiDCOM boss reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to recognising and promoting the achievements of Nigerians in the diaspora, noting that their successes continue to enhance Nigeria’s global reputation and strengthen ties between the diaspora and the homeland.
She wished both women continued success in their careers and future contributions to global development.
