The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Giwa, has warned that supervisory officers would henceforth be held liable over misconduct and unprofessionalism of junior personnel within their jurisdictions.
Giwa gave the warning on Thursday during the Command’s Monthly Strategic Conference with senior officers at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu.
The commissioner also directed area commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and other supervisory officers to strengthen command and control within their jurisdictions.
He said that the new directives was in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunje Disu, directives issued at the recent Conference with Strategic Senior Police Officers.
The state police boss charged the officers to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
“Corruption, extortion, and any form of disrespect on the rights of citizens will not be tolerated, as supervisory officers will be held vicariously liable for such misconduct,” he said.
Giwa also directed area commanders, DPOs, the Head of the Distress Response Squad (DRS), the Commander and Sub-Commanders of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and other operational commanders to sustain visibility policing.
“There is a need for us to intensify the identification and raid of criminal hideouts across the state,” he said.
He tasked the head of the command’s intelligence department and other intelligence officers to strengthen intelligence gathering to support effective crime-fighting operations.
The conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police heading departments and formations, area commanders, DPOs, and heads of the command’s units and sections.
The conference featured step-down training presentations by DCP Hope Okereke, Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and CSP Chukwuka Odum, officer-in-charge of the VCRU Anti-Kidnapping Sub-Unit.
There was an enlightenment session on the Liquor Act by CSP Justice Attah, the Command’s Legal Officer.
