Defence Minister Commends Security Agencies over Rescue of Abducted Oyo Pupils, Teachers

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Monday, the minister described the operation, which culminated in the safe rescue of the victims on July 10, as a demonstration of effective intelligence gathering, inter-agency cooperation and operational professionalism.
The rescued victims were abducted from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle; and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinle, all located in Oriire Local Government Area.
Musa stated that the operation involved the coordinated efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Security Adviser (NSA) Tactical Team and other security and paramilitary agencies.
”This operation was a remarkable demonstration of professionalism, courage, interagency collaboration, and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. The successful rescue underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the growing collaboration among Nigeria’s security and intelligence institutions,” he said.
The minister expressed condolences to the families of security personnel who lost their lives during the operation.
”I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of our courageous and selfless personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice during this operation. Their unwavering commitment to duty and sacrifice exemplifies the highest ideals of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” he stated.
Musa reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, ongoing investments in modern military platforms, intelligence assets, specialised training and enhanced inter-agency collaboration are already producing positive results in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats.
He urged commanders across all operational theatres to sustain the current momentum and replicate the level of coordination demonstrated during the Oyo rescue operation.
The minister also commended the Oyo State Government and residents for their cooperation, while calling on Nigerians to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies in support of efforts to improve national security.
