The Delta State Police Command has demoted two officers after they were found guilty in an internal disciplinary process over allegations of receiving money from a motorist through a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal at a police station in Asaba.The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police upheld the findings of an orderly room trial involving Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim of ‘C’ Division, Asaba. The officers were the subjects of a viral video recorded on January 13, 2026, which allegedly showed them receiving money from a motorist through a POS terminal within the station.The command said the officers were found guilty of disobedience to a lawful order, extortion and discreditable conduct under the provisions of the Police Act, 2020.
As a result, Inspector Augustine Jeremiah was reduced in rank to Sergeant, while Corporal Miracle Ehirim was demoted to Constable.The police command reiterated that the use of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals and other electronic payment platforms within police stations and formations is prohibited. It also warned that no police officer is authorised to demand or receive money from members of the public under any guise, adding that officers found to have violated the directive would face disciplinary action.
