Nigerian televangelist and founder of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, has become the focus of widespread attention across Africa following a massive gospel crusade in Gabon that reportedly attracted thousands of worshippers and triggered intense reactions on social media.
The multi-day evangelical gathering, held in the Central African nation, drew large crowds to revival meetings marked by prayers, worship sessions, preaching and testimonies. Organizers described the event as one of the largest faith-based gatherings recently witnessed in the country, claiming participants travelled from across Gabon and neighboring nations to attend.
Videos shared online showed packed venues filled with worshippers singing, praying and participating in what supporters described as a spiritual revival. The images quickly spread across social media platforms, fueling debate over the scale and impact of the outreach.
During the crusade, Fufeyin urged attendees to remain committed to their faith and embrace values of love, forgiveness and perseverance amid economic hardships and personal struggles. He also emphasized the role of prayer and spiritual renewal in addressing societal challenges.
Supporters of the cleric hailed the gathering as a landmark religious event, with some claiming the influx of worshippers led to heightened commercial activity and traffic congestion around the venue. Those assertions, however, could not be independently verified.
The event has also generated scrutiny from critics and online commentators who questioned some of the claims associated with the crusade and called for independent verification of reports circulating on social media.
As of Thursday, Gabonese authorities had not publicly commented on the programme or on the various claims linked to the gathering.
Fufeyin, one of Nigeria’s prominent Pentecostal figures, has expanded his ministry’s reach beyond the country’s borders in recent years through a series of international evangelical campaigns across Africa. The Gabon outreach represents the latest effort in that expansion and underscores the growing influence of Nigerian Pentecostal ministries across the continent.
The large turnout in Gabon reflects the continuing appeal of charismatic Christian movements in Africa, where revival meetings and faith-based gatherings regularly attract thousands of participants seeking spiritual encouragement, healing and communal worship.
