The family of a 65-year-old woman, Regina Nwoye, has petitioned Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and security agencies, calling for a full investigation into her murder.
The petition, signed by her daughter, Blessing Uwechia, a broadcast journalist, demanded the immediate investigation and prosecution of all persons linked to the killing.
Nwoye was allegedly attacked at her home in Ogbu Village, Ivite Umueri, in Anambra East Local Government Area on July 14, 2026.
According to the family, the elderly woman was stabbed several times and left with serious injuries before she died.
The petition stated that neighbours responded after hearing her cries for help and arrested a suspect identified as Sunday Ndukaife. However, the family believes more than one person may have been involved in the attack.
The petition read in part:
“My mother was brutally attacked, stabbed, and left to bleed to death. Someone heard her shouting and alerted other villagers, but by the time they arrived, she had already sustained life-threatening injuries.
“The community apprehended one of the suspects and handed him over to the police. Although he claimed he acted alone, some members of the community said they saw two people at the scene.”
The family also alleged that Nwoye’s condition became worse after some hospitals reportedly refused to offer immediate medical attention.
They are demanding a thorough investigation to ensure that everyone responsible for the killing is identified and brought to justice.
