Barely six months of the exit of Prof Salisu Usman Ogbo from Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, the hitherto serene atmosphere of the academic excellence and crime-free environment in the institution has gradually been taken over by cultism activities and sex for-mark-syndrome.
It was gathered that students especially the female students now live in perpetual fear and uncertainty as cultists’ activities and sex- for- mark syndrome has resurfaced on the campus.Investigations revealed that since the resumption of Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime as the Rector of the polytechnic, all disciplinary measures enforced on students and staff by the former management have been thrown into the winds.
Sources further disclosed that these lecturers’ insatiable desires and corruption were tamed under the former management but as soon as they noticed the simplicity and relapse of the present Rector in meeting old good legacy of the former Rector went back to old bad traits of the polytechnic at a frightening dimensions.
Some female students have on several times reported this incident to one of the management staff, but fell on deaf ears and instead of positive reactions and justice, she was insulted and intimidated in return. sources revealed.It was further revealed that cultists’ activities have now resumed in full gear in Kogi state Polytechnic to the knowledge of some lecturers and security personnel who are now helpless”
A fortnight ago,” the source continues, “we heard that initiation of some students into cultists’ activities took place around one of the female hostels at about 2am-3am, one of the security personnel sighted and reported the scene to management but up till now, nothing has been done.”
“The situation is getting worse every day and if government does not quickly do something, it will be worse than what it used to be when cultists openly threatened lecturers as our campus is gradually getting unsafe for learning and cross fertilization of intellectual and technical ideas.””The dress code and carrying of identity cards introduced by the former management have also been jettisoned, female students now dress any how, wearing dresses that exposed their sensitive parts to lecture rooms as if they are prostitutes in brothels while male students wear dreadlocks and saggy outfits.”
“Sales of handouts to students that was banned has now been re-introduced, and students now have to pay through the nose to meet up with the demands of some lecturers thereby creating additional burdens for them and their parents coupled with the recent astronomical increase of school fees to over 200 per cent. “The Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo should as amatter of urgency call the leadership of this institution to order and very swiftly as impunity, truancy and indolence have taken over the legacies left behind by the former rector, Prof salisu Usman Ogbo.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, John Amos Onimisi who confirmed this while speaking with Journalists in Lokoja said six lecturers were on Wednesday 22nd of July, 2026 suspended while one was also suspended over an alleged sexual harassment of female students and sales of handouts. He added that the disciplinary committee of the Polytechnic is already investigating the allegations and that the outcome will be made available to journalists as soon as possible.
