AWKA – Enugu State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo secured a major infrastructure boost when he got President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give approval for the design and procurement of two major dual carriage ways aimed at bolstering regional connectivity across the Southeast.
The authorization, Daily Independent learnt followed a series of high-level engagements between the Anambra State Government and the Federal Government.
Following a meeting between President Tinubu and Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo on July 1, the Federal Ministry of Works requested formal documentation regarding priority infrastructure corridors in the region.
Governor Soludo submitted two strategic proposals on July 3, which have now been formally approved namely: Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi) Road;108-kilometer corridor slated for dualization and Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road; a 150-kilometer route designed to link Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, traversing parts of Abia State.
According to Governor Soludo, on July 15, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, communicated the President’s approval for both projects to proceed to the design and procurement phases, pointing out that these highways are intended to function as critical transport arteries, integrating the Southeast with the North Central and South-South regions.
He further revealed that the projects are projected to significantly improve the movement of goods and services, reduce travel time, and stimulate economic growth throughout the affected states, adding that the successful approval of these road corridors highlights the ongoing partnership between the state and federal tiers of government, emphasizing a collective focus on delivering essential infrastructure to improve the socioeconomic welfare of the region#
