FG to Train 11,700 Unity School Teachers in Artificial Intelligence

The Federal Government has launched a nationwide Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme aimed at equipping about 11,700 teachers in Federal Unity Colleges with digital skills to improve classroom teaching and learning.
The initiative moved into its implementation phase on Thursday following the signing of the Terms of Reference (ToR) between the Federal Ministry of Education and ICEDT Consult Limited in Abuja. The agreement clears the way for the rollout of the AI Teacher Capacity Development Programme across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
Implemented through the Ministry’s Education Support Services Department, the programme is part of the government’s efforts to modernise Nigeria’s education system, strengthen teacher development and prepare students for a rapidly evolving digital economy under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director of the Education Support Services Department, Gabriel Amudipe, described the initiative as a major investment in the nation’s teaching workforce. He said the nationwide rollout followed the successful completion of a pilot phase and praised ICEDT Consult Limited for developing a framework that would support effective coordination and quality delivery.
Amudipe urged officials overseeing the programme to uphold the standards achieved during the pilot phase by ensuring strict compliance with the implementation guidelines.
Also speaking, Deputy Director of the department, Oladele Fapohunda, said the programme would promote digital innovation in Federal Unity Colleges. He added that close collaboration among stakeholders would be essential to achieving the programme’s objectives and ensuring its success nationwide.
