English Premier League side Fulham has moved decisively to appoint former Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa as their new head coach.
The 43-year-old Spaniard signed a three-year contract with the club, injecting fresh energy and tactical acumen into the Cottagers’ squad ahead of the new season.
Fulham announced the appointment on Wednesday, following the departure of Marco Silva. “The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Álvaro Arbeloa as the new Head Coach of Fulham,” the statement read.

Arbeloa steps into the role with immediate effect and brings a wealth of experience from one of football’s most demanding environments.
Arbeloa enjoyed a glittering playing career, most notably at Real Madrid where he won multiple trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles. He also featured prominently for Liverpool, gaining valuable Premier League insight. As a coach, his journey began in Real Madrid’s youth setup before he took charge of the reserve side (Real Madrid Castilla) and later the first team.
In his short but notable spell at Real Madrid’s first team from January to June 2026, Arbeloa managed 28 matches, securing 18 wins, 2 draws, and 8 losses (64.29% win rate). He oversaw 58 goals scored and 34 conceded. Earlier with Castilla, he recorded 19 matches with 10 wins, 1 draw, and 8 losses. Across his young managerial career around 47 matches total.
His tenure at the Bernabéu proved challenging. It featured an early Copa del Rey exit to second-tier Albacete and several difficult La Liga results that dented title aspirations, though he showed promise with attacking 4-3-3 formations.
Arbeloa replaces Marco Silva, who guided Fulham to a solid 11th-place finish in the Premier League last season (2025/26). The London club played 38 matches, recording 15 wins, 7 draws, and 16 losses for 52 points. They scored 47 goals while conceding 51, demonstrating a competitive mid-table resilience under Silva, who has since moved to Benfica.
“I feel a great sense of responsibility,” Arbeloa remarked upon his appointment. Fulham fans will hope his Premier League familiarity and Real Madrid pedigree translate into an upward trajectory. The club finished respectably last term but will target European qualification under the new regime.
