FUNAAB Raises Alarm Over Land Grabbers, Warns Public Against Illegal Purchase Of University Property

The management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has raised the alarm over what it described as the illegal encroachment and sale of portions of its land by suspected land grabbers, warning members of the public to stay away from any transaction involving the institution’s property.
The University said no part of its land is available for sale, stressing that anyone dealing with the unauthorised persons laying claim to the property does so at his or her own risk.
In a public advisory signed by the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi, the institution disclosed that the suspected land grabbers unlawfully invaded sections of its land bordering the Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority on June 12, 2026, and commenced clearing activities while falsely claiming to be acting on the authority of the state government.
According to the University, although the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Harmony Division initially intervened in the matter, the individuals allegedly continued with their activities unabated.
The management further revealed that matters worsened on June 25 after the University erected warning signboards on the affected land with inscriptions declaring that the property belonged to FUNAAB and was not for sale.
“On 25th June, 2026, after the University erected signboards declaring “This land belongs to FUNAAB and is not for sale”, the land grabbers removed the signboards and commenced demolition of sections of the University’s perimeter fence.
It alleged that the encroachers removed the signboards and proceeded to demolish portions of the institution’s perimeter fence in a move that has heightened concerns over the security of the University’s assets.
“FUNAAB categorically states that no portion of its land is for sale. Any individual or group attempting to purchase land from these encroachers is engaging in an unlawful transaction that will not be recognised by the University or the Government,” the statement read.
The University disclosed that it had formally petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Abeokuta, urging law enforcement authorities to investigate the matter and ensure that those behind the alleged illegal activities are brought to justice.
It also appealed to prospective land buyers, residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to exercise caution and avoid entering into any agreement with the suspected land grabbers.
