The NDC-Peter Obi Support Network (NDC-POSN) has condemned what it described as the alleged harassment and intimidation of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, calling for immediate action to safeguard democratic rights ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday and signed by its spokesperson, Mrs Mercy L. Akums, the group said it was deeply concerned over recent comments by Obi alleging persistent intimidation and frustration of his personal and business activities.
According to the statement, Obi made the allegations during an interview on the “With Chude” platform, where he expressed concern over his safety.
The statement quoted him as saying, “With the way this government is going, I may not even be alive to contest the 2027 election. Every single thing I do for a living, this government is deliberately frustrating.”
The support group also referenced Obi’s claim that his vehicle was recently locked at an airport while other vehicles were unaffected, as well as his assertion that some associates now avoid publicly identifying with him for fear of possible consequences.
NDC-POSN described the allegations as a threat to democratic values and warned against any actions capable of discouraging lawful political participation.
The group urged the Federal Government to conduct a transparent investigation into the allegations and called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to ensure adequate protection for Obi, his family and other political actors.
It further appealed to political stakeholders to uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional rights and preserve the integrity of the country’s democratic process.
The support group reiterated its commitment to mobilising support for the NDC presidential ticket in 2027 and urged members across the country and in the diaspora to remain peaceful and focused on lawful political engagement.
