Hamas delegation heads to Egypt for talks on implementing 2nd phase of Gaza ceasefire agreement

Hamas said its negotiating delegation will head to Egypt on Tuesday to continue talks on implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, Anadolu reports.

In a statement on Telegram, the group said its delegation will meet Egyptian officials, and mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye, as well as Palestinian factions and forces.

The talks aim to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure the implementation of commitments agreed in Egypt’s Red Sea city of Sharm el-Sheikh, particularly those related to humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the transition to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, Hamas said.

Israel launched its genocide in Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023, with US support, killing more than 73,000 Palestinians and injuring over 174,000 others, most of them women and children.

Despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, Israel has continued daily attacks, killing 1,207 Palestinians and injuring 3,914 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Israel continues to violate the agreement by restricting the entry of food, medicine, medical supplies, shelter materials and prefabricated homes into Gaza, where around 2.4 million Palestinians, including 1.5 million displaced people, live in catastrophic conditions.

While Hamas says it fulfilled its first-phase commitments by releasing Israeli captives, Israel has failed to meet its obligations through continued bombardment and restrictions on humanitarian aid.

The second phase includes a broader Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza and the start of reconstruction in exchange for beginning the disarmament of Palestinian factions. These terms have yet to be implemented, while Israel insists that disarmament must come first.
