Happening Now: HR SPACE 2026 Kicks Off In Lagos As Sanwo-Olu Chairs Business Resilience Conference

The HR SPACE 2026 conference formally got underway on Tuesday in Lagos, bringing together chief human resource officers, HR directors, senior managers and business leaders from across the country.

The event, organised by Caleb University, is holding under the theme “Reimagining HR for Business Resilience and Growth,” and is being chaired by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Speaking on behalf of the university’s Visitor, Board of Trustees, Governing Council, Senate, staff and students, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, welcomed dignitaries and participants to the forum, which is being held in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) and other bodies.

Prof. Asikhia urged HR practitioners to reposition human resource management as a strategic driver of business growth, rather than a mere administrative function.

Delivering the welcome address, on behalf of Caleb Business School, Magodo, Asikhia said Nigerian businesses are contending with a “triple threat” of economic volatility, talent scarcity and technological disruption, warning that the “old playbook” of HR practice from decades past is no longer fit for purpose.

According to him, many Nigerian university graduates enter the workforce without being job-ready, citing findings from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), and called for a deliberate push to upskill and reskill workers for an artificial intelligence-driven economy.

Also billed to feature at the event are the Guest Speaker, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc, and the Chief Host, Prof. Adebo Adejumo, Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Lagos, alongside other special guests drawn from academia and the corporate sector.

The conference is expected to draw discourse on strategic HR practices, organisational resilience and workforce growth amid Nigeria’s evolving business landscape.
