Around 600 former senior Israeli officials have sent a letter to US President Donald Trump ahead of his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging him to act over escalating settler violence in the occupied West Bank.
According to the letter, revealed by Hebrew-language media, the former officials warned of what they described as “terrorist activity carried out by settlers” in the West Bank.
The signatories, including former senior officials from the Israeli military, the Mossad, the Shin Bet and Israel’s Foreign Ministry, said the growing wave of violence could prove “more destructive” than Hamas’ 7 October attack and its aftermath.
The letter was sent to the White House and several US officials, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. The signatories urged Trump to intervene directly and use his influence to pressure Netanyahu’s government to halt the escalation.
“No one but you, Mr President, can prevent this catastrophe. We hope you will use your upcoming meeting with our prime minister to deliver a strong and clear message on this issue,” the letter said.
