Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has finally shared the deeply personal reason she stepped away from Nigeria and the film industry, revealing that her decision was driven by her commitment to her children.
The celebrated actress made the revelation during an interview with television presenter Morayo Afolabi Brown, where she spoke candidly about motherhood, her acting career, her legacy, and her long-awaited return to Nollywood.
For years, fans had wondered why the beloved screen icon suddenly disappeared from the spotlight. Addressing the speculation, Bukky explained that putting her family first was a decision she has never regretted.
“I left this country many years ago because of my children, and I will do it over and over again if I had to,” she said.
The actress also took a moment to apologise to fans who were disappointed by her unexpected exit from the entertainment scene.
“At this point, I think I have to apologise. I am so sorry I left you guys without letting you know. Mama duty called,” she added.
Speaking about her return to acting, Bukky Wright disclosed that she intentionally kept her latest movie project, Omatara Johnson, away from public attention until filming had been completed.
According to her, keeping the project private was a deliberate decision based on a lesson she has learned over the years.
“I didn’t tell people I was coming back. A lot of people didn’t know I was shooting because I have learnt something: what you keep to your heart manifests better,” she explained.
She further revealed that her son, alongside her production team, played a key role in planning and executing the marketing strategy for her comeback. Bukky noted that the overwhelming love and constant requests from fans encouraged her to return to the big screen.
After spending years away from Nollywood, the actress has now made a highly anticipated comeback, much to the delight of her supporters. Her recent interview has drawn widespread praise, with many applauding her decision to prioritise her family while remaining passionate about the career that established her as one of Nollywood’s most respected stars.
