Ikeja Unique Lions Club and Ikeja Leo Club have partnered to carry out an environmental sanitation project in the Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos State.
The event took place on July 18, 2026.
During the environmental exercise, members of both clubs cleared grass and dirt at the clubs’ garden in the Alausa Secretariat. They also cleared and made the surroundings clean.
Speaking at the event, Lion Peter Esene, the president of Ikeja Unique Lions, said that the exercise was the club’s first monthly activity for the 2026/27 Lions Service Year.
He stated that the environment is one of the areas that the club focuses on, adding that it is critical to keep the environment clean and preserve it for future generations.
“There is a need for us to keep our environment clean because it saves us from contracting diseases and falling sick,” he stated.
Lion Esene charged Nigerians, especially residents of Lagos State, to keep their environment clean, adding that the government cannot do everything for them.
He tasked residents of Lagos State to ensure that they manage their waste properly. He called on other organisations to join the efforts to keep the environment clean.
Lion Esene added that apart from its monthly activities, the club also carries out other projects to give back to society.
Also speaking at the event, Leo Hawawu Popoola, the president of Ikeja Unique Leo Club, said that Lions Clubs International is a humanitarian organization that puts smiles on the faces of the poor and needy in society.
She stressed the importance of cleanliness and called on the people to clean their environment on a regular basis.
However, Lion Welmer Gaiya, the Leo Adviser of the club, praised the Leos for turning out and participating in the exercise.
She said, “This is our first activity for the Lions Service Year, and almost all of them turned out and participated in the exercise, and I am very proud of them. This set of Leos has shown that it is committed to serving humanity, and I encourage it to continue to do so.”
