The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has reported that 3,867,997 Nigerians successfully finished the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise at the conclusion of Phase III, Week Eleven, which ended on Sunday, July 26, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Checks have revealed that millions of eligible voters may have been added to the voter register across the three phases of the ongoing exercise so far.
About 2,572,054 voters completed registration in the first phase, while 3,748,704 were added by the end of the second phase, bringing the cumulative figure to roughly 10,188,755 when combined with the Phase III total.
Nigeria currently has over 93 million registered voters, and the Independent National Electoral Commission will still carry out a de-duplication process on the more than 10 million fresh registrants to eliminate multiple entries before adding the cleaned figure to the National Register of Voters.
According to an infographic released by the commission on Wednesday night, 2,697,863 registrants completed the exercise through physical registration centres, while 1,170,134 registered online before completing the required process, indicating that physical registration remained the preferred option, accounting for nearly 70 per cent of all completed registrations.
A state-by-state breakdown shows Kano State recorded the highest number of completed registrations at 330,906, representing 8.55 per cent of the nationwide total.
Lagos State followed with 181,254 registrations, or 4.69 per cent, while Delta State ranked third with 166,895 registrations, representing 4.31 per cent.
Edo State recorded 156,150 registrations, and Sokoto State registered 145,160.
Other states with notable figures include Ebonyi with 146,507, Taraba with 141,649, Ogun with 136,921, Bauchi with 128,753, Jigawa with 125,155, and Oyo with 125,144.
At the lower end, Ekiti State recorded the fewest completed registrations at 2,276, while Ondo State registered 23,824. Plateau State recorded 41,993 completed registrations, and the Federal Capital Territory recorded 56,285.
The commission also noted that Osun State recorded no registrations during the period, as the Continuous Voter Registration exercise had been suspended there ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election, in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022.
INEC said the figures reflect completed online and physical registrations nationwide as the Continuous Voter Registration exercise progresses towards expanding voter participation ahead of future elections.
