International Widows’ Day: Kebbi NCWS Calls For Social Support For Widows, Orphans In Kebbi

As the world marks International Widows Day, the Kebbi state chapter of the National Council of Women Societies has called on well-to-do individuals and the government to provide social support to widows and their orphans.

Kebbi state, President of NCWS, Hajia Hadiza Muhammad Kola, in a statement, on Monday, tasked government and private well-wishers to use the period to reflect on the need to come to the aid of widows and orphans who lost their husbands to natural deaths or through the bad actions of some unscrupulous Nigerians.

She added that millions of widows in Kebbi state and across the country are finding it hard to meet their daily demands of life alongside their orphans, who need food and education to become responsible members of society.

“As a body and as individuals, we must not look away from our social responsibility of caring and assisting widows and their orphans, in this wise we must commend the Kebbi first lady, Hajia Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, for her assistance to widows and orphans in Kebbi state ”

Kola urged both international and local bodies to amplify calls for social protection to widows regardless of tribe, region and religion, saying society owes the widows and orphans the responsibility to ensure decent living.

While urging widows to support good government policies at all levels, she appealed to political leaders to formulate human policies that will better the lives of widows and orphans across the country.
