It was a great moment and he told City People many things about his music career, especially how meeting Juju music star, King Sunny Ade in 2007 changed his career for good. Below are excerpts of the interview.
Congratulations on your giant strides in music. It has been how many years now?
Firstly, I want to thank God, that today I’m actually setting my eyes on Mr. Seye Kehinde. Before I go into your question, like I said, I said to my Manager, that Dr Seye Kehinde is a very good man. When I had my Album launch, that was 2009, he was there. So, I didnt know who invited him, but he was there. And I want to appreciate City People for giving a big support to me. And I want to tell you that I’m part of this beautiful family. So I was very happy when I was told that I needed to come, and I told my Manager that, yes, we must come. Thank you so much. God bless you. So far, so good, I thank God. You know, as a Yoruba adage says, “Oju eni bala oju na arito”.So far so good, I thank God. He has taken me to some level in life that I believe that He is the only one that can, that’s very very reliable. I’ve been doing well in my own little space. And God has been wonderful to me.
Tell us about your journey. How did you start?
Musically, I started when I was very young. I actually got to know my calling through a dream. I had a dream, that myself and some family members were in that dream, I dreamt I was abroad singing. So, after that dream. I went to my Pastor, my spiritual leader. So I told him about it. That was when he directed me into my part. From there, I picked it up around early mid 90’s, 2000. That was when I started fully.
So those years I started with doing demo in those days. By that time, you take your demo to the marketers yourself. So when I did my demos, then I visited Afeesco films at Ebute Metta, Borno way. I visited Sarolaj music and all of those Marketers, that was how I started until when I met King Sunny Ade in 2007. He now took it upon himself to help me. From there, within that year, I had my first album, NEW SENSATION.
How did your meeting with King Sunny Ade happen?
I am from Ondo and Baba too is from Ondo. After so many years of struggling to get it right in the Music Industry, I had a vision and I said that the only person that could help me fulfill it was King Sunny Ade. I took it upon myself that I’m going to see this King Sunny Ade. I started the journey. I started from seeing him coming to his studios, as in his Jibowu Studio by then. I will come. I will try to see him, but to no avail. Fortunately for me, I met a man. We are family friends, he was the one I told about my wanting to see KSA. He took us to a man who happens to be King Sunny Ade’s family friend. They’ve been together for decades. Fortunately, the man took me to KSA that particular day. That was in 2007. So on getting to King Sunny Ade, it was a Sunday because normally in our town, Ondo, what we normally do is, every last Saturday of December. We do an event called Ekimogun Day, that gathers every Ondo sons and daughters from around the world. So it was after King Sunny Ade’s performance that the following Sunday, I met him. So on getting to his house, the Baba took me to him. He said, okay, you have like 3 prayers, you’ve prayed before getting here today. That you are praying. One, for you to have access to me. Then, two, for me to listen to you, and three, for me to grant your request…that your 3 prayers have been answered. So that was just the beginning. Immediately, that was when I recorded my 1st album.
How did you feel that day you met King Sunny Ade and he told you that your 3 prayers have been answered.
Every other person would have felt that way, you know, felt the same way I felt that day. Because we all know KSA is the King of World Beats. We all know how massive he is, you know.
So meeting him and giving me that kind of assurance. I think it’s a very, very big deal.
So it was like, yes, I’ve conquered the world. That day would be most memorable in my career as a musician.
And have you been able to keep your relationship with King Sunny Ade.
Yes, because something about me is that God has given me the spirit and ability to keep relationships because I won’t do more than I can do.

I won’t overstress you. KSA has been a figure to look up to for all sons and daughters of Ondoland.
So I have to treat it with caution. And by the grace of God, so far so good. I think I was able to maintain it, and I’ve been a good grandson to him.
