Port Harcourt – Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a 50-year-old man, identified simply as Godwin, over the alleged defilement of two minors, aged 13 and 11, in Ogale Community, Eleme Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was apprehended on Monday by officers of the Eleme Police Division at his residence following a formal complaint lodged by the parents of the victims.
The father of one of the victims alleged that the suspect habitually sent the two girls on errands before inviting them into his room upon their return.
According to him, the suspect would allegedly lock the door, increase the volume of his music and sexually assault the children.
He further alleged that the suspect threatened the girls with severe consequences should they disclose the incidents to anyone.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the suspect was in police custody and that investigations into the allegations were ongoing.
“Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. Investigation into the allegation is ongoing,” the police spokesperson said.
