Kuwait said on Wednesday that its air defences had intercepted hostile missiles and drones, while Bahrain sounded an air raid siren and urged residents to seek shelter.
The Kuwaiti military said in a statement on X that its air defence systems were “currently confronting intercepting hostile missile and drone attacks”.
It added that “if explosion sounds are heard, they are the result of air defence systems intercepting the hostile attacks.”
The military urged the public to follow safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry also announced that an air raid siren had been activated.
The ministry called on citizens and residents to remain calm, go to the nearest safe location and follow official news channels for updates.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted what it described as 85 US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait with missiles and drones, in response to US strikes on southern Iran overnight.
On Tuesday evening, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had carried out strikes on Iran in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States also revoked a licence issued on 21 June that had allowed the sale of Iranian oil for a period of 60 days.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Tuesday that three oil tankers had come under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing minor damage.
Later, Saudi Arabia and Qatar said that the vessels included a Saudi tanker and a Qatari tanker, and both countries condemned the Iranian attack.
Iran maintains that vessels must coordinate with Tehran before passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global energy supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz has witnessed periodic security tensions linked to the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which began on 28 February.
On 18 June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding and have continued difficult negotiations, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, in an effort to reach a final agreement.
