The President also declined assent to two bills passed by the National Assembly, citing constitutional and legal issues that require amendments before they can become law.

Tinubu Holds Security Meeting Amid Salary Controversy
President Tinubu convened an emergency security meeting with the nation’s top military and intelligence officials following public criticism over the monthly salaries of Nigerian soldiers.
The controversy erupted after the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed that the minimum monthly salary for soldiers is ₦100,000. Both serving personnel and military veterans described the amount as inadequate, accusing the Federal Government of failing to implement a promised salary increase announced months ago.
Troops Arrest Foreign Drug Courier Supplying Terrorists
Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East (Operation HADIN KAI), arrested a 48-year-old Chadian woman, Mrs. Rachael Samuel, on July 9 for allegedly transporting prohibited items to terrorists operating around the Lake Chad Islands.
Security operatives recovered about 30 kilograms of cannabis sativa, cartons of alcoholic drinks, containers of a substance known as “Suck and Die,” and other illicit items believed to be intended for terrorist groups.
Tinubu Rejects Two National Assembly Bills
President Tinubu has refused to sign two bills passed by the National Assembly, citing constitutional inconsistencies and legal defects.
The Senate was formally notified through separate letters read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who said the bills would require corrections before they can receive presidential approval.

The United States Department of Homeland Security has identified 124 Nigerians among foreign nationals slated for deportation over criminal convictions.
According to the agency, the affected individuals were included in an intensified immigration enforcement campaign targeting convicted offenders under the administration of President Donald Trump.
