The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian, who was reportedly killed after sustaining injuries during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Spokesperson of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said Marian, a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, died from injuries suffered during the attack in the eastern Ukrainian city.
The government extended its condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and the Nigerian community affected by the tragedy, praying for the peaceful repose of her soul and strength for her loved ones.
The ministry said it is working with relevant authorities, as well as Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany, to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide the necessary consular assistance to the bereaved family.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s concern over the continued loss of civilian lives in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Federal Government renewed its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to pursue dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes in line with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The ministry also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to protecting the welfare of its citizens abroad, assuring that it would continue to monitor developments closely while providing all necessary support through its diplomatic missions.
