The Nigerian Navy has approved the proposed site for a Naval Base in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, following a technical assessment by a delegation from the Naval Headquarters.The approval clears the way for the next stage of the proposed project, which is expected to strengthen security along Taraba State’s border with Cameroon and improve the protection of critical national infrastructure, including the Kashimbila Dam.
During the assessment, members of the Naval Headquarters delegation expressed satisfaction with the suitability of the proposed location. Before inspecting the site, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to Governor Agbu Kefas at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, where discussions focused on the project’s strategic importance to national security and regional stability.
Governor Kefas reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the establishment of the facility, describing it as a strategic investment that could enhance security, encourage economic activities and attract investment to the area.
The proposed base is expected to strengthen surveillance of inland waterways and border corridors, improve operational response to security threats and complement the work of other security agencies operating in the state. The approval of the site marks a key step in the process leading to the construction and eventual operation of the proposed naval base, subject to the completion of other required administrative and operational procedures.
