A notorious bandit identified as Auta Yankuzo has reportedly shared a photograph on TikTok displaying a large amount of cash allegedly received from kidnap ransom payments.
The claim was made by conflict journalist Bakatsine in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
According to him, the photograph was uploaded to Yankuzo’s TikTok account on Tuesday.
“Bandits TikToker Auta Yankuzo has posted a ransom payment on his account yesterday. The picture appears to be from previous payment as the ground looks too dry to be of recent days,” Bakatsine wrote.
Bakatsine, who is known for covering conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, noted that although the image was recently uploaded, it appeared to have been taken during an earlier ransom transaction.
The development has renewed concerns over the growing use of social media by armed bandit groups to display activities linked to their operations.
It comes days after a video surfaced online showing armed bandits flaunting bundles of cash allegedly realised from ransom payments, further fuelling concerns over the country’s worsening security situation.
